Delbert “The Iceman” Smith, a legendary figure in Kansas dirt late model racing, has built an extraordinary career spanning more than five decades. Hailing from Wichita, Kansas, Delbert’s passion for racing was ignited by his uncle, Arkie Findley, a respected racer in his own right, along with his brother Lonnie. Inspired by their influence, Delbert began competing in the 1970s and quickly made a name for himself at iconic tracks such as 81 Speedway in Wichita and Fun Valley Speedway in Hutchinson.
Over the course of his storied career, Smith has amassed more than 300 feature victories, including 20 National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) wins and 11 Midwest Dirt Late Model Series (MDLMS) victories. His championship résumé includes the NCRA title in 2001, a co-championship in 2018, and MDLMS championships in 2011. Dan Smith, a seasoned dirt late model driver from Beloit, Kansas, has built a commendable racing career marked by significant achievements. In 2025, Dan added another milestone to his résumé by capturing the Sooner Late Model Series Points Championship, locking it up by 67 points—proof that sometimes six-seven really is the winning number.
Previously, he clinched the NCRA Late Model Championship titles in 2015 and 2021 and was honored as the NCRA Rookie of the Year in 2015. His prowess on the track is further highlighted by victories at the Grand Nationals in 2019 and 2024.
